DVM, Emergency & Critical Care
Dr. Nicole Keaner grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she established her love for cheese and the Green Bay Packers. She majored in chemistry at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and left Wisconsin to attend graduate school in physical chemistry at the University of Colorado – Boulder. Half way through her PhD, she decided that lab life was not for her and finished her masters in physical chemistry.
She attended the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, after which she completed a one year rotating internship in Denver, Colorado. Loving the mountains but tired of shoveling snow, Dr. Keaner moved to Tucson in 2013. She worked as an emergency veterinarian at a specialty referral center for two years. Dr. Keaner’s passion is emergency medicine. Her special interests include shock, toxin ingestion, and metabolic disorders.
In her free time, Dr. Keaner enjoys spending her time with her husband (who is also a veterinarian), two dogs and fat cat. Dr. Keaner still lives in Tucson where she enjoys being close to great hiking and trail running. She has completed the entire Colorado Trail twice (~500 miles) and she recently backpacked 400 miles on the Arizona Trail.
