Maxine Ma

DVM, EMERGENCY & CRITICAL CARE

In life’s most urgent moments, immediate attention can make all the difference. Emergency and critical care ensures your pet has expert help during accidents, sudden illness, or times when every second matters.

Dr. Maxine Ma was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, and later moved to Chengdu, China, in her teens. Dr. Ma first came to the United States as a foreign exchange student in high school. She spent a year living with a wonderful host family in Las Vegas who encouraged her to return to the United States for college. And so she did!

Dr. Ma attended Purdue University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. After college, she worked as a veterinary assistant for two years in Indianapolis. That is where she met her fur baby, Scruffy, who was brought to the hospital as a stray. In 2022, Dr. Ma relocated to Glendale, Arizona, to attend veterinary school at Midwestern University, where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2026.

In her spare time, when Arizona is not scorching hot, Dr. Ma enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, camping, or swimming. But she says staying inside is fun too! She enjoys baking, watching movies, playing video games, napping with Scruffy, and reading books aloud so she and her husband can enjoy them together, with Dr. Ma serving as the audiobook narrator.
