Vera Maeckelbergh

DVM, ACVIM, Internal Medicine

Dr. Vera Maeckelbergh obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State University. During her education she was a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society and received several awards and scholarships.  After graduation she completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City, followed by a return to Louisiana State University to complete her training with a residency in small animal internal medicine. She became board-certified in small animal internal medicine in 2008 after passing the rigorous examinations set by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).

After becoming board-certified Dr. Maeckelbergh spent several years working at a private multi-doctor specialty practice in Florida before relocating to Hong Kong, where she practiced for many years before returning to the US in 2021 and landing at 1st Pet. She is skilled in both advanced diagnostics such as abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy and in managing complicated and challenging internal medicine conditions. Her special areas of interest include nephrology, endocrinology, hematology and feline internal medicine. In addition to her clinical practice, she has published papers on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and Coagulation Profiles and has presented numerous continuing education lectures covering a range of internal medicine topics.

When not at work, Dr. Maeckelbergh enjoys spending time traveling and exploring with her family.
